This enables support of Linux, AIX and IBM i for PowerVM systems. There are currently three supported components of the PowerVM driver: nova-powervm – Support for Nova use cases. PowerVM is well suited for virtual machines that need access to high performance and reliability.It may be over engineered for smaller applications. However, if the infrastructure is in place you can utilize it to run Linux VMs as well. PowerVM, formerly known as Advanced Power Virtualization (APV), is a chargeable feature of IBM POWER5, POWER6, POWER7, POWER8, POWER9 and POWER10 servers and is required for support of micro-partitions and other advanced features. PowerVM is what IBM i hosting providers use to cost-effectively support multiple tenants on a single server.

In short, its hypervisor is quite flexible. It can help provide services in the cloud faster by automating deployment of VMs and storage.
